NEWCLUB GOLF SOCIETY

Questions people actually ask

Straight answers, including the ones where the answer is "no." If something here isn't clear, just email me and ask.

The basics
What is NewClub?

A private golf club that doesn't own a course. Instead of belonging to one club, you rotate through a lot of them.

We're not a simulator, an indoor facility, or a tee time app. We're a golf society: members play a rotating slate of private and public courses on tee times we hold, alongside a few hundred other golfers, with monthly events and competitions on top.

The short version is that you get more reps, on better golf, without managing any of it.

What does it cost?

$1,650 for the year, or $150/month. Monthly plans carry a one-time $250 initiation.

No minimum spend. No food and beverage minimum. No assessments. That's the whole membership cost.

Northeast Ohio is in its founding phase, so founding memberships there are $1,300 for the year while spots last.

You pay green fees on the rounds you actually play, which is the next question.

Ready when you are — the application takes about five minutes.

What do rounds cost on top of dues?

You pay for the golf you play, and nothing for the golf you don't.

  • Private courses: $125–$175. Our members play on guest rates, which is the lowest rate those clubs offer anybody. A handful run higher.
  • Public courses: $50–$100. Rack rate or a touch under. Some of the nicer ones go higher.

We'll be straight with you: we're not getting you a discount on public golf. What you're paying for there is the organized game, the tee times already held, and the group you're playing with.

Is it actually cheaper than joining a club?

For most people, by a wide margin. Here's the honest math.

 To get inPer year
Private club$20,000–$100,000$3,600–$12,000 in dues
NewClub$0 annual / $250 monthly$1,650, plus the rounds you play

Play 25 rounds with us in a year, half of them private, and you're all-in somewhere around $4,000 to $5,000. At a private club you'd clear that in dues alone, before the initiation check ever gets written.

The flip side, because it's real: if you're playing 100 rounds a year at one place, and you want a locker, a grill room, and the same twelve guys every Saturday, a club is probably the better buy. That just isn't most people.

The golf
What courses do you play?

Each of our markets has 20+ private clubs in the rotation, and that number grows almost every month. On the public side we hold standing weekend tee times at strong local tracks, usually several a week.

In Chicago, for example, we play everywhere from the South Side and south suburbs up through Evanston and the North Shore, out to Naperville and into the northwest. On the public side we're regulars at The Preserve, Mt. Prospect, Sunset Valley, and Cog Hill.

It's also demand-driven. If there's a course you'd love to play, tell us and we'll work to get it into the rotation.

The best look at what's real is the schedule for your market, which shows what's actually on the books.

Why won't you just send me the list of private clubs?

Because we agreed not to, and that agreement is the only reason we can get you on those courses at all.

The private clubs we work with let us bring members in on the condition that their names stay off public emails and websites. If we published the list, we'd lose the list.

We know that's frustrating when you're trying to evaluate this from the outside. So: they're names you'd recognize, there are 20+ of them per market, and we will walk you through every one of them by name on a call. That conversation is honestly the best part.

If you'd rather skip the call entirely, come play a round with us as our guest and see it for yourself.

Book 30 minutes with Austin and he'll go through the full list for your market, by name.

Can I actually get a tee time, or is everything taken?

Yes. Games get posted two to three weeks out and everything is bookable in the app.

Weekends do fill on popular courses, but rarely all of them at once, and if a course starts getting too competitive we add more times. Most of our tee times are in the morning.

One thing worth saying plainly: we're not a prepaid standing-tee-time program, and we don't pretend that every course is available every weekend. What you get is a steady, rotating slate of good golf that's already organized.

Tee times have their own cancellation window, listed on each one. It's usually 24 hours.

Can I bring guests?

Yes and no, and the distinction matters.

  • Public rounds: yes, always. No limit on how many you add to a tee time, or how many over the year.
  • Private rounds: usually not by default. Most private tee times don't allow guests.

That said, there's real flexibility. If a private time isn't filling, you can message the hosting member through the app and ask, and that works out more often than not. You can also reach out to hosting members informally and ask if they can get you and a guest on sometime. That happens a lot.

Still deciding?

Most people know within one conversation. Apply now and we'll review it this week, or ask your questions first.

Fitting in
Am I a good enough golfer for this?

Almost certainly, yes. There's no handicap requirement to join.

NewClub isn't a club of low-handicap bombers playing the back tees. Our average index is about a 9, and members range from plus-handicaps to the high 20s. The golfer who's gone from a 30 to a 15 in a year is exactly the kind of person we want out there.

If you're worried about it, come play a round with us before you join. That question answers itself in about four holes.

What happens with my handicap?

Your USGA handicap comes with your membership. Once you're in, you'll get an email from the USGA with your GHIN information, and your index updates automatically as you post scores.

You don't need an existing handicap or a separate state association membership to join. If you already have a GHIN through another association and want to move it over, let us know and we'll help sort it out.

What events and competitions do you run?

Something most months, and you're never obligated to play in any of them.

  • Monthly Medals — 18 holes, net and gross stroke play
  • The Stinger — our member-guest
  • The Rumble
  • Club Championship
  • Trips — past ones include Scotland and Sweetens Cove

Plus the recurring games that members organize themselves, like Friday skins and weekday match play. Between them there's usually something to jump into.

New members often ask whether they should wait a while before entering a competition. You shouldn't. The Medal is the fastest way to meet people.

Joining
Which cities are you in? What if I travel?

Chicago, Atlanta, and Northeast Ohio, plus a National membership for golfers outside those markets.

Your membership travels. If you're a Chicago member and you're in Atlanta for a week, you play in Atlanta. Nothing extra, no separate membership.

What's the commitment, and what if I want out?

One year to start, and after that it converts to month-to-month.

And if you're genuinely having a bad experience, or life changed and you're not playing at all, tell us. We'd rather have a conversation and work something out than hold you to a year you're not using.

How do I actually join?

Three steps, and the whole thing usually takes under a week.

  • Apply. The application takes about five minutes.
  • We review. Our leadership team goes through applications together each week.
  • We talk. A short, casual conversation before anything is final, just to make sure it's a fit both ways. This is how the community stays good.

Then you activate, and we send a welcome packet with the upcoming schedule and how to book your first round.

Two ways in.

Apply and we'll review it this week, or talk to me first if you'd rather ask questions before filling anything out.
